I have a mountain kit and it is great. I recently discovered that with the neck removed it fits perfectly in a standard mandolin case which makes it ideal for a take down travel banjo.(mandolin cases fit in overhead compartments and count as carry-on) I put 1/8″ threaded inserts in the neck and replaced the 3 body to neck screws with knurled brass machine screws. Which makes taking the instrument down very quick and easy. not sure if its viable but it might be a nice option to offer as threaded inserts are cheap.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I know Brian has a travel banjo that’s based on the mountain banjo, but it’s interesting to hear that you can break down the mountain to do this.
