Description
Set includes seven strings so you have a wide range of tuning options. These strings are simply classical nylon guitar strings with an extra string. You will receive a pack of six strings and one loose string.
Tuning explanation:
For open E tuning: this is the ideal tuning for these strings on Carver Banjos kits. E is three half-steps below standard G banjo tuning.
The single loose string (thin clear) is used as the 5th thumb string. In the pack of six strings, discard the two thickest silver wound strings. The thinnest silver wound string is used as banjo string 4. The thickest clear string is banjo string 3. The next thickest clear string is banjo string 2. The thinnest clear string is banjo string 1.
- string 1: b
- string 2: g#
- string 3: E
- string 4: B
- string 5 (thumb string): e
For low, octave or cello tunings:
The lowest recommended tuning for these strings is low A. This is one step away from being one full octave below standard G banjo tuning.
Discard the single loose string.
In the pack of six, discard the thinnest clear string.
The second thinnest clear string is banjo string 5. The thickest wound string is banjo string 4. The next thickest wound string is banjo string 3. The thinnest wound string is banjo string 2. The thickest clear string is banjo string 1.
- string 1: e
- string 2: c#
- string 3: A
- string 4: E
- string 5 (thumb string): a
In any “open” tuning the chord structure will be the same as you are used to in standard open g banjo tuning, just the note will be shifted. Other non-standard tunings can also be applied such as sawmill and double “x” tunings, they will just be shifted. This might sound complicated but you don’t have to relearn any chords or songs to play in different tuning ranges.
