I’m thinking of buying one of the kits with a 12″ rim and have some further questions.

    1. What are the approximate figures of the rim depth and thickness?
    2. How accurate is the 12″ diameter figure – does it vary +/- by much?
    3. Has anyone tried extending the kit by fitting a pre-made 12″ tension hoop (say from Balsam Banjoworks)? Any reason why that wouldn’t work if I decided to try it?

These rims are handmade and vary in size +/-1/4”
Average dimensions are 12” diameter, 2 1/4” tall, 7/16” thick.
I do not recommend this kit with intent of using a tone ring or a standard size drum head/hoop. Besides the dimension tolerances, there is also the non-standard neck to rim joint which may prevent the function of hoops and tension rings etc.
