    Hi Brian!
I have the minstrel with rim hardware, and have an idea to modify the rim so that the hardware nuts sit flush with the back edge. It’ll mean undoing the brackets, which of course means the skin will come loose.

Are you able to share the process for re-skinning the hardware rim?

    Thanks so much.

    Hi Chris,
Sure thing! It’s a very simple process. Just remove the nuts from the hooks with a flathead screwdriver. Get the outer ring free. Pop the skin off (might need a little push from the back side, sometimes the varnish on the rim can stick).
When it’s time to put the skin back on, dampen it. Just submerge it in cool water for a second. Take it out, Pat it dry with a towel and put it all back together.
Tighten the nuts just about finger tight, don’t overdo it. The skin should already sound pretty taught. Let it dry over night and it should be tight enough, adjust carefully the tension as needed.
