Hi Brian I’m thinking of putting a few dots on the side of my fretless Minstrel banjo. I just want to be absolutely sure I have it correct before drilling 🙂
It says on the Minstrel page that the strings are 24.8 “. I assume that measurement is from the inside of the nut to the inside of the bridge. It is pretty much exactly 63 cm.
I am planning to put my ruler on the fret board and measure from inside of the nut and marking the fret lengths based on 63 cm total. Does this sound good to you.
I calculated the spacing on ChatGPT AI
Hope this is clear. I only in tend to put a few.

    Hey RickT
The scale length is 24 13/16” to be exact.
I use standard banjo scale length measurements but take away the first fret. 26.25” standard minus the length of the first fret = 24 13/16”.
The measurements for standard fret distances is readily available online. I won’t post here because it’s a lot to type out and I’m in inches and you’re in metric, but I’m sure you’ll figure it out.

    Thanks Brian
That is pretty much exactly what I used. I put 1/8 inch birch dowels as my dots so they match the maple pot.
Here is the final product. I wanted it to be subtle.
    Cheers
