Crown height on hardware kit

Brian,

If I were to order a different head for the hardware kit, would I want a low crown for the best fit?

Yes the plastic drum heads I use actually have zero crown. There is some room for adjustment, so low crown should still work. There is variation amongst brands on that metal band that the head itself is mounted to, so I can only guarantee my heads to fit. I have tried some other heads and they did not fit inside of the tension ring due to the mounting band being too large in diameter.

Hey thanks for the info, I had some experimenting in mind with a renaissance head. I may eventually try something but maybe not. FYI I got the hardware kit banjo dialed in majorly and I am really loving the sound. I ended up making a few bridges and settled on one made of padouk. To my ears it gives a nice clucky round sound with good tight low end. It is my only fretted banjo and only one currently with steel strings so I have been using it a lot in a little jam session. I plan to install brass or bamboo side dot markers when it needs a string change. May want to throw aquila reds on it too just to see.
If I end up getting a head that fits Ill post in here so others can know.
