Alright, so for this experiment I bought $22 tuners branded as Yobuy. I thought I would be taking them apart and cleaning all of them but really only one needed it. Not machined to perfection or anything but decent for the price. The pearloid buttons are absolutely atrocious to me haha, so I may use some maple I have to make buttons. But heres how it looks. No issues drilling the holes out, including the 5th. The 5th string tuner is just pressed into a slightly tapered hole, which makes it so the string can be wound to float up off the frets. If it ends up being annoying or fiddly I will add a pip to hold the string and then wind it lower on the peg.
