    Hi all,
I got one of the Mini gourd kits for Christmas and I’m super excited! I just finished sanding and oiling/varnishing and I’m getting ready to attach the skin to the gourd.

I’ve been following the assembly video, and I like the look of lightly varnishing the gourd, so I did that. (It’s slightly darker, shiny and gorgeous btw) But I was wondering if the Varnish I put on the gourd would mess with the wood glue that’ll help stick the skin down.
If the Varnish is a problem, what’s a good way to remove it? Lightly sand the gourd?
I used Minwax Tung Oil finish if that helps.

Also, attached photo is Gourdly after 2 coats, I did the third and final last night but forgot a picture.

    Thanks,
    Rich

Hey Rich thanks for posting! I think you are on the right track, good idea to sand/scuff up the surface that will be covered by the skin. Should help the glue stick a lot better
